Welcome River Community!
Dear River Families,
It’s hard to believe that the long days of summer are almost behind us! We are hoping that your days have been filled with the joys and spaciousness that bring the often much-needed restoration. River Montessori Foundation has been busy this summer, and is thrilled to kick off another year of supporting our children and River Montessori School. We look forward to seeing the school filling up with children and families!
River Montessori Foundation will be offering a welcome coffee/tea to all of our families our first Friday back – August 27th, directly following drop off, at the Children’s Dining area (facing Ellis Water Treatment trails). Please plan to join fellow River families, catch up, and learn more about your River Montessori Foundation. We will have tables set up (at drop off time, and at pick-up from 1:00 – 1:30, so you can learn more about how you can be a part of the foundation that supports your child’s school. Members from many of the committees – Events, Outreach, Sustainer, Ongoing Fundraising Activities, as well as our Volunteer Coordinators — will be available to answer any questions you may have before you sign up for a committee.
As a refresher…the foundation is the parent-teacher-student-community organization which, along with providing outreach and Montessori awareness in the community, also enjoys the privilege and responsibility of raising monies for River Montessori School. We are excited to be starting the year with committees, planned events and family activities. Of course, there is lots of room for more participation and volunteers…we welcome ALL of our community to share in the work and the fun! Our meetings are regularly scheduled for the first Monday of each month – we are looking at alternating between mornings and early evening meetings this coming year, to better include all of our River community.
We promise to keep you in the loop around important dates and issues through our newsletter, announcements, signage, and the occasional weekly backpack flyer. So please stay tuned!
In fact, shortly you will be receiving an important letter from River Montessori Foundation’s Sustainer Committee…offering information about River’s Sustainer Program. As with every public school, RMCS also has our version of a family contribution program to help offset the state’s devastating cuts to the education budget.
River’s Sustainer program has been instrumental in supporting the schools operations budget, enrichment programs, as well as making other essential contributions toward our children’s learning experience. Please take the time to read the Sustainer Committee letter before you make your sustaining commitment.
Included along with this communication, you will also find several forms to help the 2010-11 school year get underway: a River Directory form, a Riverwear form, and a Pizza Friday form. Each form is self-explanatory and will give you information about the program purpose as well as directions for turning them back to River. We will have some other ongoing fundraising trappings available at the Welcome Tables – your Brain Freeze card, as well as information about River’s eScrip program…all very simple to sign up!
In the meantime, look for the ways that you might offer your talents to River as we raise monies and awareness for the school, including:

We are grateful to our wonderful River Community, and look forward to spending more time together this year, building relationship, and supporting our school.
